A chapter of National Assistance League®

We work with the teen parents
programs in high schools in
Carlsbad, Oceanside and Vista.
In an effort to support and
encourage these mothers and
fathers to stay in school and
receive their diplomas, we provide
an ensemble of baby care items
to each mother.
Each layette consists of a laundry
basket that contains a digital
thermometer, a crib blanket, two
receiving blankets, two bottles, a
towel & washcloths, socks,
diapers, wipes, 2 "one-sies", a
sleeper, diaper rash cream,
shampoo, a photo album, a
stuffed animal, a toy and a book.
Our members personalize the gift by crafting a handmade blanket and/or quilt,
in the appropriate colors of pink, blue or yellow depending on whether or not
the sex of the baby is known ahead of time.
The program began serving just one high school and has grown so that we can
now support teen parents at the following schools:
Ocean Shores High, Oceanside High and El Camino High in Oceanside,
Alta Vista High and Vista High in Vista
Carlsbad High in Carlsbad
We have distributed the following number of layettes each year since the
project started in 1998:
1998-1999 - 13 layettes
1999-2000 - 27 layettes
2000-2001 - 38 layettes
