A chapter of
National Assistance League®
Our Footsteps program provides new
school shoes to children whose families
cannot keep up with growing feet and
daily wear and tear.

Through referrals from school principals
and counselors, Assistance League
North Coast aids children from 33
Oceanside, Vista, and Carlsbad
elementary schools and MAAC Project
Pre-school sites.

Most Wednesday mornings during the
school year, we meet a bus load of kids
at a Payless ShoeSource store.  Our
members team up one on one with each
child so they can pick out shoes that fit
and that they will be proud to wear to
school.

The excitement and appreciation that
the kids exhibit makes this such a
rewarding experience for all of our
members.  Some of the children we
meet have never been shopping for a
new pair of shoes.

Each child also receives 6 pairs of socks
and a health kit. $35,000 is budgeted
for 2009-2010.  This is our largest
project at the present time.  We
appreciate Payless ShoeSource as a
great partner in this project.
